Add the right spices to your Kitchen Renovations

Renovations in the house are important so that living at home becomes easier and it also adds value to your home. Updating your kitchen can be quite a task and you shouldn’t rule out the thought of hiring a professional kitchen contractor who will be able to advise you on the necessities in the kitchen area.

The right spices make a great recipe and that is something that stands true for most things in life, so why not apply it in your kitchen as well. You need the correct combination of things so that you have the perfect kitchen.

Let’s take a look at a few things you must consider when planning your kitchen:

• Use good quality material-this is very important as it is no use compromising on quality now for cheaper prices but paying more in the long run. Preferably stay away from drawers and cabinets made from particleboard. For cabinet interiors wooden veneer is more durable than melamine, MDF, laminate or particleboard. Good quality material means the doors and drawers will close correctly.

• Decide whether you are going to paint or stain-by this we mean that you need to choose what finish you want for the wood. A stain finished wood is definitely more forgiving as other finishes start losing their shine very soon. You could try brush finish for something unique.

• Cabinet Heights-it is important that you choose the correct cabinet height as you wouldn’t want them too low or too high. If you have high ceilings then make sure that you plan your space well, it shouldn’t be so that you then can’t reach any of the cabinets. Tall cabinets offer you more storage space, and you can utilise open spaces for artwork or displays. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet then leave at least 15 to 18 inches above the cabinets.

• Islands-these are a great addition to the kitchen if you have the space for one. Try and avoid the bulky cubes in the middle of the room look. Islands look best when they are unencumbered, so try and go for a clean and airy look even if you want a dishwasher sink combo or you want a cooktop.

• Countertop-marble honed, sealed or acid washed or stained wood can add a touch of sophistication and warmth respectively to your kitchen. Slates, soapstone, limestone, plastic laminates with the wooden edges are also good options for the counter top.

• Appliances-it is advisable that you stick to the basic appliances that are familiar to you and you are comfortable with. Cooking is supposed to be a fun experience and not an appearance on a gadget show. So instead of lots of appliances choose some reliable ones.

• Details- by details we mean the design accents such as pediments that are above stoves or the plaster moldings which can sometimes look very excessive. Ensure that your kitchen is in sync with the rest of the house.

• Low Maintenance- there are advantages and disadvantages to most materials that are used in the kitchen so make an informed decision. Marble, laminate, ceramic floors all are smooth and easy to clean but they show everything, but natural materials like terra cotta tumbled marble, slate, brick, etc are all difficult to clean but they hide stains and an odd crumb here and there.

• Dining Room-a cleverly and well planned kitchen should have an attached dining area with appropriate lighting and furniture. You could be different and consider a banquette style design so as to accommodate during parties and such similar ideas.

• Add Interest-make your kitchen interesting and unique with eclectic pieces of furniture or a certain focal structure or display piece that will automatically ad life to the room.

These are just a few things that you should remember when you are planning out your kitchen. Hopefully you get that perfect recipe for your home.
